Thank you for the wonderful exhibition! Going back through the Timmelsjoch we will understand much more about the history of the area. Unfortunately we have not seen any ibexes – but thank you for the explanations, we go to see them now!

The Mooseum bunker
The Mooseum bunker, “Opera 3 - sbarramento di Moso” (Moos barrier) formed part of the Italian fascists’ Alpine wall (Vallo Alpino del littorio), intended to protect the immediate frontier with Nazi Germany following the latter’s 1938 annexation of Austria. There are altogether six bunkers in the Upper Passeier. They were conceived as the first line of defence against incursions over the Timmelsjoch. Construction of these unfinished defensive works stopped in 1942 and they were never used operationally.

The tunnels and corridors of the bunker were intended for multiple use: as a defensive bunker for machine-gun positions, as a protective bunker for the occupants of the Moos barracks and as a command bunker for co-ordinating the other positions.

At the edge of Moos village centre a sizeable tunnel for storage and accommodation was blasted out of the rock. The three machine-gun posts were protected by a 7-metre thick, supposedly bombproof concrete structure over the bunker. Inside the rock, the two levels are connected by a spiral staircase of approx. 25 m in height. This impressive structure was not altered during the museum conversion and is now accessible to visitors.
